Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates
|
Featured and good topics in Wikipedia A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic. This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the good and featured topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured topic candidates. Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly. The featured topic director, GamerPro64, or his delegate Spy-cicle, determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived. You may want to check previous archived nominations first: |

Nomination procedure[edit]To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button. Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic, and to create appropriate books (see Book:Jupiter for a good example). For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Nomination procedure. Supporting and objecting[edit]Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination. Following the creation of the book, Cyberbot I will create a book report (see example) containing details about cleanup issues (only those that have been flagged with cleanup templates, so it may not pick up everything), and various tools to inspect external links or resolve disambiguation pages. It can be a good idea to check the report and inspect links to see if certain articles need some cleanup (doing this before the nomination is even better).
For a topic to be promoted to featured topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate. | |

I am nominating the article "Ipswich Town F.C. in European football" to be part of the larger Ipswich Town topic. European competition is very important in the history of many football clubs, including Ipswich Town, who won the UEFA Cup back in 1981. Just recently, the article was promoted to GA status. Seeing as how the Liverpool topic includes the article for their history in Europe, I believe that this article should be added to the topic. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 00:00, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- Contingent support: Seems a reasonable expansion of the scope. It looks to me like this new article is not currently linked from the main article's text (only in the navbox at the bottom), and that should really be corrected if it's an important enough facet of the topic to belong here. I give my support contingent on the new article being better incorporated into the main article. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 03:31, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

This former featured topic has had significant changes made to all of the lists since it was demoted back at the end of 2013. Since the conclusion of Part II, all of the lists pertaining to the manga have been promoted to featured status, thus passing WP:FT?. I am personally a big fan of Naruto, so I hope to see this topic get promoted again. --KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 23:42, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: The three subordinate articles seem to contain literally exactly the same content as the main list, just divided into three parts. It seems as though we either don't need the overview list or don't need the three shorter ones. I'm not sure this seems like a "topic" so much as two copies of the exact same material. What am I missing? -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 23:55, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- The separate lists are transcluded in the Volumes article. I wonder if there’s some way for it to look like this again, while keeping it transcluded. Pinging Tintor2. 1989 (talk) 17:05, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- I tend to suck at making sublists. Normally, DragonZero used to help me when I messed up the sublist of D.Gray-man and Bungo Stray Dogs.Tintor2 (talk) 17:29, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
- Support @Bryanrutherford0 and Tintor2: The sublist transclusion has been fixed by DragonZero. 1989 (talk) 15:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if this is something we're supposed to consider at WP:FTC, but it doesn't look to me like the overview list would pass WP:FLC as it now exists; it has a section that consists entirely of a hatnote and no text. I won't oppose this nomination over it, but this one doesn't make sense to me. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:22, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- Section removed. 1989 (talk) 17:39, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, and now the article seems to me to be incomplete (and thus not feature quality) because it doesn't cover those film comic tankōbon (despite mentioning them in the lead). Doesn't seem ready to me. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:22, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

The newly created CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship has been passed for GA and can be added to this Feature Topic to make sure it is comprehensive. MPJ-DK (talk) 02:02, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
CommentSupport: Something strange is going on here. CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship is not newly created and did not recently pass GA, but rather it is already a FL and already part of this topic since the topic's creation in 2017; it's already the top article in the right column that you just added it to a second time. Did you mean to add a different article? -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 03:24, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- Bryanrutherford0 - what is going on is a brain fart on my part, I copied the link, but forgot to change "Mini" to "Micro". I am asking to add the CMLL World Micro-Estrellas Championship... and and I'm apparently a barely functioning idiot at times. Fixed the nomination, glad you are on the ball.MPJ-DK (talk) 04:39, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Politics of Croatia[edit]

Currently there are nine separate GA quality articles that involve Croatia politics that includes its independence referendum, its government, and some of its foreign relations. --Jon698 (talk) 00:44, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose: This topic doesn't seem complete. Surely it should include Constitution of Croatia, as well as Judiciary of Croatia, neither of which is currently a GA? Counties of Croatia might also belong here (it's a FL). Likewise, if the topic is going to include Croatia's other neighbor relations, then it should also include Croatia–Serbia relations and Croatia–Slovenia relations (which aren't GAs), and if it's going to include Croatia–Serbia border dispute, then it also needs Croatia–Slovenia border disputes. Featured Topic Criterion 1(d) says that there must be "no obvious gaps (missing or low-quality articles) in the topic. A topic must not cherry pick only the best articles to become featured together." You can propose what you want the scope of the topic to be, but then all articles within that scope must exist and be GA or better. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 01:05, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- Speedy oppose I was about to thank you for your work on this having written my comments but the unfortunately retired User:Tomobe03 appears to have written all of these, not sure how you'll be able to respond to my suggestions... This is a poor selection of articles. Prime Minister of Croatia needs to be included since he's the primary political and government leader. Why have "Croatia-Bosnia relations" shown but piping to Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia when there's literally Bosnia and Herzegovina–Croatia relations? And why Hungary but not Croatia–Serbia relations or Croatia–Slovenia relations? With such a broad topic there can be discretion in what's included toward being comprehensive (should the judiciary count in politics/government?) but this isn't well-defined. I'd say leave out foreign affairs altogether and make it on domestic politics, but besides PM you'd need at least Constitution of Croatia and probably Speaker of the Croatian Parliament. (duplicative comment using reply-link lol) Reywas92Talk 01:37, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - Agree with Bryan Rutherford and Reywas92 that the articles in this topic seem broad, random and incomplete. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 23:31, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - the comment "Currently there are nine separate GA quality articles that involve Croatia politics" implies that the nominator is working under the misunderstanding that you can group together GAs relating to a topic and nominate them, even if they don't cover the whole of the topic, which unfortunately is definitely the case here....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 10:25, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

I am nominating the newly-created First American International Road Race article to be added to this list of notable subjects related to Briarcliff Manor. Thank you. ɱ (talk) 18:10, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Weak oppose: I'm not sure I completely grasp the scope of this topic (it strikes me that "Scarborough Historic District" should perhaps be its own topic, and then the properties in that district would make better sense in that topic than here), but I suppose this race makes as much sense here as "Beechwood" does. If it is to be added, then the new article needs to be actually put into the topic box above. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:26, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hey - yeah perhaps from the names it might be hard to put the pieces together. But if you read any of the Briarcliff history books, they focus on each of the village's historic sites above (many of which are in the Scarborough Historic District, Beechwood included). The road race is mentioned in every one of these books as one of the most prominent events centered in Briarcliff in the early 1900s, only a few years after it was founded. ɱ (talk) 19:52, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe, but my point is that, if that's true (about the importance of the race to the history of Briarcliff Manor), then it was already true when the topic was first proposed, which means the topic was incomplete at that point and should never have been promoted. It looks to me as though this new article is really part of the subtopic "History of Briarcliff Manor" and doesn't belong in this main topic. After thinking this over, I'm shifting my vote to "weak oppose". I'll reiterate that it looks to me like this topic needs to be rethought, with all the individual historic sites within the historic district being moved into a subtopic. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 01:12, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

This covers a complete topic, the chamionship, a list article and every single person to win the championship is of GA quality. There have been a total of 15 champions over the last 29 years, adding a new champion every 1.5 years on average - so the task of getting another champion article to GA is not an overwhelming task --MPJ-DK (talk) 19:05, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

The Turtle is only mentioned once in the overview article, as a curious aside; it seems clear that it didn't significantly impact the course of the campaign.
