Category renames - yep![edit]

Dear Geagea, I must have been so out of it last month, as it appears I didn't thank you or acknowledge your helpful advice on my Category renames: the rationale for making the previous name a REDIRECT and how the Category name has possibly been referenced by other projects. Just now I remembered this when creating a new Category and moving the contents from Category:Go'el loitzki (hmmm, a transliteration by someone ignorant of Ashkenazi surnames starting with "Levi..."?). Daphne Lantier, using LicenseReview for image from another wikipedia is surprising. I added the section "Original upload log" which can be generated through commonshelper even if the file exist in Commons if the original did not deleted yet.

Hi Geagea! Hoping you can help with this one. I came across these files, which seem to be self-promotional and outside of our project scope. But then I noticed they've been in use on he:User:זויה פאנה for almost a year. At first glance, it looks like someone has mistaken Wikipedia for Linkedin. Is this sort of thing generally allowed on Hebrew Wikipedia? And aside from that, does this person appear to meet the notability guidelines for the project? I had a look at File:NGC253.jpg (following the new article he:NGC 253) and couldn't help noticing that this is a professional image. A short search found its source to be here. It seems to me that this image, as well as other images from the same source that were uploaded by this user, are copyrighted. It's possible that the user is authorized by the observatory to waive the copyright and upload those images to Wikimedia, but still, a credit and a link to the source must be given.(I applied first to User talk:Hanay, but she asked me to tell you)

Easy n, I agree with you. However I found the site it was taken from and added to the file info. License reviewer will check it. Seems that the file is in public domain under CC-BY-SA-3.0 but the attribution (Credit Line) was missing and it was definitely wrong.

Next time, if a case like this simply nominate the file to deletion (ypu can use "Nominate for deletion" in the left side) and explin why you think that there is a problem with the file.-- Geagea (talk) 15:07, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

restoring a wrongly deleted COA[edit]

Hi Geagea, here is a COA that was recently deleted, altouhgh should have been kept. I already wrote the following note on the User's talk page (Jcb) previuosly this week, but he did not bother to answer by now. Hi, the following COA was wrongly deleted: File:Kiryat Ekron COA.png i reworked this image out of a municipal sign permanently displayed in town (which fits the FOP IL template). Hi kippi70. Sorry for the delay. Indeed, I agree that the deletion was sloppy. The closer admin did not give a chance to move the files to the wiki's and the no answer is really bad. Anyway, as far as I can see the description in the source field says "Municipality of ..." (Not only in this case). And when yoe mentioned that in the same DR the asked for the original photograph. I started to upload the files as fair use to he.wiki (see משתמש:Geagea/סמלי ערים), so before moving forward, may be it is a good idea to look over the whole list and see if there are more with ths same issue. -- Geagea (talk) 14:36, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi again. In this particular image there is a clear FOP case. I received an image taken from Arie Inbar (from He Wiki), uploaded it to Commons (and i cannot find it here anymore...) and reworked it slightly and uploaded the clean variant. The image he took was of a sign where he lives and the rework (derivative work) is mine. I hope this is clear enough. OK, thank you for your help. I forgot to look in my archive in the He Wiki, but i could not have imagined that this image is seven! years old. At least my work isn't lost now. IF FOP is not respected in Commons, i have nothing more to do here. The admin. who deleted the file, not only ignored my explanation, he did not even bother to answer. As i told you earlier in my talk page: "sooner or later everything i have uploaded here will be deleted. So, i prefer to spend my time in future on something safer. Jcb, let me explain the facts. In February 2010 asked user Kippi70 from another user from he.wiki to take a photo of Kiriat Ekron symbol. They have done it and uploaded for him File:Kiriat Ekron Symbol, 150210 014.jpg. I know it fro a archived discussion in he.wiki her. Kippi70 reworked this image from the same photograph out of a municipal sign permanently displayed in town. Kippi70 did not remembered which file was the original although it was mentioned in other versions field.

Regarding to the FoP. In the same DR the issue of derivative work from photograph of a municipal sign permanently displayed in town was accepted and some files were kept. The only issue was that the source does not given. That issue was resolved. I uploaded both files of Kippi70 to he.wiki to confirm the details.

Both files should be un-deleted. The question is if it should through UDR or it's ok with you to un-delete them. As I mentioned in the same DR, I have full trust in this user words which confirmed by the facts.

Kippi70, It's may happen that user/admin missed your message. that kind of things happenes, so lets assume good faith. Could you update the File:Some Middle East and North African Countries Time Zones.png by coloring Libya and Sudan in yellow because Libya already uses UTC+2 and Sudan switched to UTC+2 in 2017, and could you remove South Sudan from the map, which became independent in 2012 and still appears as part of Sudan, because this new country is not an Arab country and nor part of the Arab World? I requested this because I don't know how to update this map with the latest changes without messing it up.

In File:Dubbing films in Europe.png, could you translate this new legend into Hebrew? The original uploader from Israel is no longer active in Wikimedia Commons, hence I could not ask this to him or her.

Belgium: The Flemish speaking region occasionally produces its own dialect dubbing versions, otherwise solely subtitles. The French speaking region of Wallonia and the German speaking region of East Belgium use exclusively a full-cast dubbing, both for films and for TV series.

And could you add the Hebrew translation in brackets (Belarus and Slovakia) after the sentence in the violet colored legend?

Can you send my request File:The Arab Countries.png to he.wiki graphic lab, because Israel (including the Golan Heights) is erroneously included, and needs to be removed - only the West Bank and Gaza should be kept in this map. (Unfortunately in some Arab World maps, the territory of Israel is delibaretly included and whitewashed.)

Yes, these are the same pictures I'm talking about. But I see no evidence it's Tanaquil Le Clercq. I don't know her either ! Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries[edit]

Can you add South Sudan in the maps File:Hippopotamuses Map Range Hebrew.png, File:African continent WW2 He.jpg, File:AfricaandME WW2 He.jpg, File:Blue nile map-HE.png, File:Hippo distribution-he.gif, File:Unified Combatant Commands map he.svg, File:Swahili-HE.svg as well as in other maps in Hebrew where it is missing (and then remove the Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries after updating them)? Or can you send my request to he.wiki graphic lab?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files, now it is reduced to less than 750 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps and complicated PNG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

I did not mark the file as 'no permission' as far as I can see. You are also supposed to check the results of your edits, so I don't see the point here. The file was categorized as Category:New uploads without a license yesterday morning, which should appear in your watch list. Yes the file was marked as 'no license' but the '{{Cc-by-sa-3.0|1=...' was there. it was missing only }}. I admit that I am human but what is your excuse. If the file was without a license bot can notify me. Admin can and should check and no to do bot alike task. You could simply add }} but you did not even check. This tirade is uncalled for. You are responsible for checking your uploads and edits, please don't blame anybody else for your errors. I had found only a few images here that linked to that account, for two of them I added links to Twitter/Instagram with the same photo. Hello, Gea! In a discussion about Halloween customs, I discovered the file:Reuven_Rivlin_receives_Mishloach_manot,_February_2018_(9958).jpg as it appears on en:Mishloach manot. So I have two queries for you:

For the {{Depicted person}} field in the file Description, is plain text permitted (e.g. five members of a [Zionist, Israeli] youth movement)? Or only in the description field?
If you can help identify which youth movement that is (all shirts visibly have the same two symbols or parts thereof), we can categorize the image for them too. I won't jump to conclusions that the red string-tie is only for HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed.

In this case it gives extra categorys:

I have a bot deleting all categories that are automatically generated by {{Wikidata Infobox}}. I agree I made a mistake. Actually, a double one. First, I misread your comment and thought you were complaining about my moving a speedy deletion request to a regular one; then I realized you were complaining about my removing the request for speedy. As I said, I agree that my opinion, based on the source, the author and the exif was wrong and your point is well taken. Yesterday I entered to Commons and get 2 notification moving a speedy deletion request to a regular one:

I immediately translated the English. I thought to my self, no big deal. But when I entered to Commons today and get more notification moving a speedy deletion request to a regular one:

The image uploaded on 2007, it is claimed to be a work by editor in enwiki and it is not high quality (so I don't suspect it isn't his own work). However after uploading the image I noticed you recently deleted an image of same person - Commons:Deletion requests/File:הרב אשר וייס בשיעורו השבועי.jpg. Can you please verify if this is same image? Question about correct translation of "Georgian Jews" into Hebrew[edit]

I wrote the German article de:Georgische Juden more than 1 month ago. On the discussion we had some questions about the correct translation of the pluralic topic term "Georgische Juden" or Georgian: "ქართველი ებრაელები" into Modern Hebrew. Is it a better style in Hebrew to use the abstract term יהדות גאורגיה or would you prefer the also pluralic translation יהודים גאורגיים ? WajWohu, Look like a very good article. Originally the hebrew article was named יהודי גאורגיה (=Georgian Jews or Jews of Georgia) but it was decided in he.wiki to change all the articles starting with יהודי .... (=... Jews) to יהדות ... (=Judaism in ...) aka יהדות גאורגיה (=Judaism in Georgia or Judaism of Georgia). "יהודים גאורגיים" is not a terminology used for Georgian Jews even though it's not a mistake. I've changed into that better pronounciation. (In German language the letter j is similar to the English letter y and much more often used. Identified images corrected[edit]

Something, somewhere in the Government Press Office, caused a small bit of the end of the file to be left off. That means there's about a 240x16 px area of missing data at the end. The end-of-file marker got left off as well, which is what caused the image to be flagged as corrupt and causes some decoders, like Firefox, to not display the bottom of the image. We can't get back the missing data, but the end-of-file marker can be re-written using any image editor you can convince to ignore the problem in the first place. A lossless editor is best for this, but GIMP works too. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:35, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Confirmed for both. Those two tools I mentioned are mostly for adding missing end of file tags (a.k.a for non-visible corruption) without losing content, which happens with the crop tool. Apologies for the confusion. --TheSandDoctor (talk) 09:13, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
