Photography workshop

This workshop is part of the Graphics Lab, a project aimed at picture retouching to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. This specific page is the requests page for the Photography Workshop. Anyone can make a request for a photograph to be improved. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.

I tried to enhance this pic; however the results did not satisfy me. The barks in the foreground are too dark, the sky looks whitish, the foliage is not green enough. Request: Can you notice that the sky is very dark in the middle? Can you fix it with no quality issues?; I can't seem to do this easily with GIMP. I imagine it is an easy task with photoshop if anyone has that? It's not for an article, just for a featured picture, uploaded off Flickr. The colour looks great Pawel but they won't take even the smallest errors on the horizon in COM:FA. I could do it in GIMP but it would take hours to get all the detail on the horizon. Hoping someone might have photoshop or something? ~ R.T.G 09:26, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

They say it still requires a slight touch up on the left hand side to hide any trace of editing. I suppose I can see just a little blue on the edge of some of the trees that stand out on the horizon. If I did the sky it would mean having to paint the whole horizon for hours. I just can't figure photoshopping out xD ~ R.T.G 02:41, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

That's nice. I did an "alternative" version at Archäologisches Museum Thessaloniki (Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης) (33954449868) - retouched.jpg with a different background and a little sharpening. That has an "infobox grey" #f8f9fa background - but that can just be reverted to the previous version for white if that's more appropriate (e.g. you're not using it in an infobox)... -- Begoon 23:57, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

terrible import of Botticelli's Venus used throughout Wikipedia[edit]

According to its file usage info, many Wikipedia branches use File:Sandro_Botticelli_-_La_nascita_di_Venere_-_Google_Art_Project_-_edited.jpg. This has a max resolution of 30k x 19k which is a whopping 200 MB. But it is extremly blurry close up, and I estimate that a whole order of magnitude of resolution is completely wasted. This file in turn goes back to File:Sandro_Botticelli_-_La_nascita_di_Venere_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg which shares the same problem, and that refers to "Google Cultural Institute, zoom level maximum" as source - and there, at Google, is an actual sharp and crisp image to be found with incredible detail. Either it was imported in a rather clumsy fashion, or at a point in time when Google did not offer a better resolution. Anyway it would be a nice task to find, or do a better import, and go through the various projects and replace it. -- Theoprakt (talk) 08:29, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Making images square - enquiry about possibility, no request for work to be done[edit]

Request: This is an enquiry rather than a request for anything to be done. The above image is a not a rectangle (which in this case seems to be a printing rather than a scanning artefact (cf. [1]).

Is there a straightforward way to transform the image into a rectangle? In essence it seems to need the top right corner pulling up somewhat. I'm a clueless GIMP user, if it helps. (And then there's a discussion about whether such images should ever be made square. I've come across some which seem to result from non-flat pages being photographed, although I can't put my finger on one as I write ... perhaps what underlies my question is, is this desk able to handle such transformations.) thx --Tagishsimon (talk) 01:05, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Request: Hi fellows! Does anyone know why all the PNGs issued from Photoshop I upload here do not display well on this site? I need to open each file with another software (Paint 3D) to overwrite it with the same extension, to get a visible thumbnail on Commons. I come to this section after having posted a similar request at the Help Hesk a few days ago (now archived) and Phabricator with the help of Jeff G. I've been using Photoshop CS for decades but only since recently Photoshop CC, and do not understand the problem. Maybe some of you know. @Jeff G.: I really don't think this version of Windows 10 may have an influence, though. This is the same Windows, just 6 months earlier. Blemish removal[edit]
