Please block Decasurger (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log for repeatedly uploading copyvios after previously being blocked for doing the same. --Wcam (talk) 17:58, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Downgrade protection request.[edit]

Request downgrade protection for coronavirus map, it is frequently updated, and is not vandalized or disruptively edited to require full protection. Request semi-protection. File: [1] Bill497 (talk) 08:43, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bill497: File:COVID-19 Outbreak World Map.svg is currently cascade protected by Commons:Auto-protected files/wikipedia/en, which means the admins at English Wikipedia fully protected a page (which is the Main Page, which has always been protected) that is cascading and includes the said image. Unfortunately, you have to wait until the image is no longer in the Main Page of English Wikipedia. pandakekok9 09:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Pandakekok9: In that case is there any way to just get it off the main page? I understand that it’s there because of the relevancy of the topic, but this map also cannot afford to not be updated for a long period of time due to the extremely fast changing situation. It is already outdated significantly after only a few hours. --Ratherous (talk) 09:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Ratherous: We could ask Krinkle to add an exception to KrinkleBot for File:COVID-19 Outbreak World Map.svg. I don't know if they will agree though. pandakekok9 09:21, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Pandakekok9: Maybe the main page can replace the main map with the temporary map made by Bill497. --Ratherous (talk) 09:23, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
That's plausible. pandakekok9 09:24, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Bill497, Ratherous: I started a request at enwiki's VP/misc. I don't know though if it was the right venue (I'm not a regular there). pandakekok9 09:34, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Okay thanks for your help! Hopefully they'll agree to change the map. --Ratherous (talk) 09:36, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Bill497, Ratherous: Hurrah! pandakekok9 10:52, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
@Pandakekok9: Thank you! --Ratherous (talk) 11:49, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

EatchaBot[edit]

Not sure where to discuss this, but User:EatchaBot is currently archiving Flickr-pages, which seems to me a total waste of energy and supplies. Sources of Flickr-images on Commons have been verified, so why should Commons archive it even elsewhere? The bot-owner, User:Eatcha, appears to be on a long holiday, that's why I came here to request the bot being stopped immediately. I want to add that while the bot is busy, it seems totally impossible to archive any other page on Archive.org, Eatchabot seems to usurp all capacity.

In a site note, I like to also mention that it is not the first time these days that archive.org is connected to some of my worries, especially connected to users who get paid by archive.org, but I have no idea whether Eatchabot is performing paid actions. Eissink (talk) 15:50, 15 March 2020 (UTC).

You may find Commons:Help_desk#Sleepy_bot? useful. All your assumptions are false, I don't get paid by IA but there's a consensus to archive links (find that yourself) and "Eatchabot seems to usurp all capacity." Of what ? Your IP has a different quota than mine. //Eatcha (talk) 16:33, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer, but why are you archiving sources of files like this, that was uploaded ánd reviewed in January? Eissink (talk) 17:24, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
This might sound weird but I am trying to add the archive parameter to all files in Category:Flickr images reviewed by FlickreviewR 2, I can add links to latest files first but if older links are still alive, it makes sense to save them first. The files generator is returning files in alphabetical order. // Eatcha (talk) 18:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
If the only reason to add parameters is that FlickrReview is not completely up to date, then why don't you use your bot to make FlickrReviews? I guess it is all coincidence, but I don't really get it and to me it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I guess it now has the attention of others too, so I'll leave it here. Good luck. Eissink (talk) 20:01, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
Proposal to run a bot to archive every external link using the Internet Archive on Wikimedia Commons, passed with 23 supports and 0 oppose. // Eatcha (talk) 03:18, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. Maybe Bots should mention this kind of proposals and/or other, relevant constituting surveys in the edit summary by default, to prevent discussions like these. And maybe you should also not state on your Talk page that you are away for the next few months, because I would have asked you on your Talk page and not find another way to express my concerns. Thanks. Eissink (talk) 12:26, 16 March 2020 (UTC).
The message about wikibreak, I accept it's confusing I usually add such templates 1-2 weeks before leaving, but there's a reason : It's easy to take a brake if you don't get daily messages which are often bug/feature requests. I also added a big line on bot's user-page about the same, the summaries are already pretty big. Eatcha (talk) 14:16, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. And that's it, as far as I'm concerned. Thanks, Eissink (talk) 16:42, 16 March 2020 (UTC).
Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. --Eatcha (talk) 17:01, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
